John Hegley March 2011
The Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour with John Hegley

We were absolutely thrilled to take the incredible poet John Hegley on a Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour to Clackmannanshire and Aberdeen in March 2011.
John Hegley has been performing poetry and music since the 1970s when he started busking in Hull. Since then he's produced ten books of verse, two CDs and a mug. John regularly performs his work at events all over the UK entertaining adults and children alike and is a true master at bringing poetry to life.
John hosted six 50 minute poetry activity sessions which saw pupils coming up with imaginative acrostic poems and playing with language. John then took to the stage to perform some of his favourite poems and songs including an excellent rendition of "Sunnyside of the Street" at Sunnyside Primary School!

Pupil Feedback
Pupils wrote to us with some of the great acrostic poems they wrote following their workshop with John Hegley.
Could be a poem poems from Sunnyside Primary School, Clackmannanshire
Cats run around everywhere
Over the hill and away
Under the sun the run and play
Looking for places to hide
Do they mind?

Custard and ride for my pudd
Only if it's nice and good
Under my bed are secrets to share
Land in Scotland to shout everywhere
Dynamite looks like it's over there

Cold but hot is what I feel
Ouch I stood on a pin
Unbelievable my foot is bleedin'
Loudly I shout darn it

Teacher Feedback
In all honesty very rarely has poetry brought such smiles to the faces of the children I have taught. He made them laugh, smile and positively embrace poetry. Gill Graham, Walker Road School
Thank you for arranging the visit of John Hegley to Manor Park. The children of P5 really enjoyed the visit which has provided a stimulus for further follow-up work. K Young, Manor Park School
Very entertaining. Children responded well to slightly lunatic approach. Jill Addison, Manor Park School
Unfamiliar with John's work? You can see him performing I Need You in this YouTube video or listen to him being interviewed by Year 6 pupils at Chorlton Park Primary.
