The Scottish Friendly Children's Book tour with Guy Bass

Guy Bass Stitch Head by Guy Bass

We had an early Christmas gift for schools in Falkirk and North Ayrshire in 2011: the hilarious author and entertainer extraordinaire, Guy Bass, came to town!  He braved the hurricanes and snow to visit schools between the 5th and 9th of December 2011 with the Scottish Friendly Children’s Tour.

Guy is the author of several hilarious series, including Gormy Ruckles, Dinkin Dings (the first book won the Blue Peter Book Award in the ‘Most Fun Story with Pictures’ category last year), and the standalone book Secret Santa: Agent of X.M.A.S. Guy talked mainly about Stitch Head, a ghoulish comedy of monsters, mad things and the most unlikely of friendships.

You can find lots more information on Guy and his books on his excellent website http://www.guybass.com/ and also at www.stripespublishing.co.uk.

We have also created special teacher resources for the event. There are separate resources for two of Guy's books, Stitch Head and Dinkin Dings and the Double from Dimension 9.

Guy was extremely entertaining & the children loved it! I think the fact that they could relate to some of the things he was saying about his childhood really captured them! He made writing seem cool - which is super as I have some reluctant writers in my class! They love his books, they (& I) think they are really funny. Fiona Morrison, Bowhouse Primary School

We all really enjoyed it. Guy was very funny and made the event fun and interesting. The children continue to talk about his books they purchased. Laura McCafferty, Stenhousemuir Primary School

Who is this Guy?

Guy Bass is an award-winning author, playwright and performer. Guy grew up dreaming of being a superhero – he even had a Spider-Man costume. The costume doesn’t fit anymore, so Guy now contents himself with writing children’s books, and drawing the occasional picture. He lives in London with his wife.

In 2010, he won the Blue Peter Book Award in the ‘Most Fun Book With Pictures’ category for Dinkin Dings and the Frightening Things; he has also twice won the Portsmouth Book Award (Shorter Novel) for his Dinkin Dings series.

Guy has written plays for both adults and children, including three series of children’s plays for The Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough. He also created the Munglers Trumps cards in support of The Reading Agency’s 2011 Summer Reading Challenge.
