Gill Lewis - Sky Hawk

Scottish Book Trust and Oxford University Press had a fantastic day with Gill Lewis at two of Edinburgh's Eco-Schools - Echline Primary and Royal High Primary. We also had David from the RSPB to impart his wisdom of Ospreys and to talk about the issues raised in Gill's novel Sky Hawk.
Set in the stunning Scottish countryside, Sky Hawk tells the story of Callum and Iona and their amazing discovery, a magnificent Osprey and how that discovery affects them and their friendship. It also deals with the threats to the natural world and the challenges that people, who live below the poverty line, face on daily basis. This rare and touching story will have the readers in floods of tears while a large smile forms across their face.
Although this is a first novel it has been widely praised by booksellers, readers and authors alike including Michael Morpurgo “Here’s a rare thing...that opens your eyes, touches your heart and is so engaging it almost turns the pages for you!” It has also been sold to a further 16 countries pre-publication.
You can now download (for free) the Teachers notes that accompany the book and like in the book there is a blog where you can track a real-life Osprey.

Gill Lewis Interview
Gill tells us about her debut novel, touring in Scotland and her passion for Ospreys.
Author Biogrpahy
| Before she could walk, Gill Lewis was discovered force-feeding bread to a sick hedgehog under the rose bushes. Now her stories reflect her passion for wild animals in wild places. She draws inspiration from many of the people she has had the fortune to meet during her work as a vet, both at home and abroad. Gill Lewis has a masters degree in Writing for Young People from Bath Spa University and won the 2009 course prize for most promising writer. Her first novel was snapped up for publication within hours of being offered to publishers. She lives in Somerset with her young family and a motley crew of pets. She writes from a shed in the garden, in the company of spiders. |
