Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour with Matt Whyman

We took young adult author Matt Whyman to visit 6 secondary schools in Angus this December this year as part of the Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour.

Matt is a best selling author and resident agony uncle for both Bliss Magazine and BBC Radio 1's The Surgery with Aled. Writing for both adults and young adults. His previous young adult books have been shortlisted for various awards and his newest book The Savages has received widespread praise - being described by The Guardian as 'a dark-hearted comedy of family life.'

The pupils enjoyed both a talk and a creative writing workshop with Matt - discussing sterotypes in stories, writing in 3rd person and characterisation.  We had some excellent questions for Matt including 'What made you make the change from agony uncle to author?', 'Have you ever made a mistake live on the radio?' and 'did you research films such as 'Silence of the Lambs?''  Ths schools have been planning some excellent work related to the tour - discursive essays with the theme of vegetarianism, book trailers and their own macabre stories!
