Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour with Nick Sharratt
In January The Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour took brilliant illustrator and author Nick Sharratt to Liverpool for an extra special week of school events.
Nick Sharatt's bold illustration style has made him one of the most recognised children's book illustrators around. Perhaps best known for his work with Jacqueline Wilson and Julia Donaldson, he has won awards for both collaborations and indiviudal efforts such as Pants! and, most recently, Shark in the Park on a Windy Day!
Children, teachers and parents alike were very excited when we announced that The Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour would be bringing Nick Sharratt on a magical mystery tour of Liverpool!
Over the course of a week the tour ventured to all corners of Liverpool, with the help of The Reader, a literacy social enterprise group. We visiting 10 primary schools, with another 9 schools attending sessions, with over 2400 P1-4 pupils sharing Nick’s passion for drawing and rhyming.
Nick’s sessions were really inspiring and it was amazing to see how children as young as 4 producing their own brilliant drawings using Nick’s accessible drawing style and tutorial. There was plenty of pupil participation and fun and games using rhymes. There was applause and awe as Nick dazzles us all with his jelly juggling skills and hysterical mayhem as pupils and teachers battled it out to be crowned bagel balancing champion!
All the schools made a brilliant effort to promote and get excited for the tour. One schools chose to promote Nick’s books Pants by designing and decorating their own pair of pants and wearing them to the session (including teachers), while another school all wore shark fins in celebration of Shark in the Park on a Windy Day!
