Malcolm McNeill Schools Event
In September Scottish Book Trust brought debut Scottish author Malcolm McNeill to schools in Renfrewshire for a day of special events!
Malcolm grew up in Scotland and travelled the world before deciding to return to his roots to explore his passion for writing.
The Beginning Woods is a riveting, fantastical mystery that centres around Max, a seemingly ordinary boy abandoned in a bookshop as a baby, who must solve the mystery of The Vanishings.
Malcolm shared with pupils the inspiration behind his debut novel and his own development as a writer. He enthused and opened up discussions around the themes of censorship and philosophy, which are at the heart of the story of The Beginning Woods. He got pupils thinking about the effects reading and writing have on their own character development and the historical effects of censorship on arts, culture and literature.
This thoughtful and lively event captured the imagination of pupils and sparked discussion as well as providing valuable tips for aspiring creative writers.
