Authors Live: Authentic Teens in YA

Join us on Authors Live for our first ever panel event for secondary schools as we discuss the representation of teenagers in young adult fiction.

We will be joined by Jean Menzies, a popular vlogger who talks all about books on her channel, BookishThoughts, plus two bestselling authors: Non Pratt and Melvin Burgess! You can find out more about our panellists below.

Register now to tune in with your class for a conversation about all things YA, from language and romance to friendship and technology. Groups who sign up below will also:

Melvin Burgess was born in London and brought up in Surrey and Sussex. He has had a variety of jobs before becoming a full-time writer. Before his first novel, he had short stories published and a play broadcast on Radio 4. He is now regarded as one of the best writers in contemporary children's literature, having won the Carnegie Medal and the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize for his acclaimed novel Junk.

Jean Menzies is a youtuber, presenter and book reviewer from Scotland. She currently lives in London where she works in publishing as the creative producer at Pan Macmillan. She is also studying part-time at the University of Roehampton to achieve her PhD in Ancient History and Classics.

Non Pratt grew up in Teesside and now lives in London with her husband and daughter. After working in publishing for several years, she became a full time author. Her debut novel, Trouble, was shortlisted for the YA Book Prize, the Branford Boase, and was longlisted for the Carnegie. Following on from her second book, Remix, Non is a star of the Young Adult book community. She has appeared at literary festivals around the country from Edinburgh to the Young Adult Lit Con (YALC) and also runs professional workshops for new authors trying to break into children’s publishing.
