How To Get Involved

It is very easy to get involved in the Scottish Children’s Book Awards!

Just follow the five simple steps below:

1. Register (registration is now closed)

2. Read the shortlisted books in your age category

3. Discuss the books in and with your class or book group – use the learning resources and the videos

4. Review your favourite book – enter our review competition

5. Vote for your favourite book! (voting is now closed)

 

Timeline for the 2011 Awards

Shortlist announcement: Tuesday 6th September 2011

Reading, discussing, reviewing and voting: September 2011-January 2012

Deadline to register to take part (on the website): Friday 30th December 2011

Voting and review competition deadline: Friday 27th January 2012

Ceremony to announce winners: Thursday 23rd February 2012

Our Bookbug Readers category learning resources have been created by Scottish Book Trust’s Early Years Trainer, Tracy Lowe. The Younger and Older Readers category resources have been created by our Learning Resources Developer Chris Leslie.

Discuss - Videos

We have filmed all authors and illustrators and you will be able to watch the results in short videos available from the website! The perfect way to introduce the awards to your class or book group.

If you are registered to judge the Bookbug Readers category, you will be able to watch the authors and illustrators read the whole picture book, and also answer some short questions.

In the Younger and Older Readers category the authors read a short extract from their book and then answer some questions.

Review – how to submit a review and enter our review competition

Submit a review of your favourite Scottish Children’s Book Awards shortlisted book and read other pupils’ review online!

What you can win:

The winner in each age category will £25 worth of Waterstone’s Book Tokens, the runners up will get £15 and £10 worth of Waterstone’s Book Tokens. The school of each winning pupil will receive a free author or illustrator visit by one of the three shortlisted authors in their category!
The winner in each age category will also be invited to the awards ceremony in Edinburgh on the 23rd February 2012!

Winners will be notified via their teachers, librarians or book group leaders by Friday 10th February 2012. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. There is no cash alternative.

To submit a review for the review competition, just click on the link and follow the instructions. We are only able to accept reviews submitted via the website. The review competition deadline is Friday 27th January 2012.

Vote – how to submit your vote

We will send the person who registered a class or group a personal voting link via email. You will only be able to vote once and will be able to submit all your pupil’s votes. You will only be able to submit as many votes as the number of pupils you registered. If you would like to increase the number of pupils voting, please contact Heather Collins, heather.collins@scottishbooktrust.com or phone 0131 524 0176.

Download our group ballot paper or individual ballot paper to help you and your pupils record their votes before you submit them online on their behalf. All votes must be submitted online using your unique voting link, the ballot papers are just designed to help you collect in all your votes and make it more exciting for your pupils.

Award ceremony

The ceremony to announce the winning books and the winners of the review competition will take place at the Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh on Thursday 23rd February 2012.

Come along to see the shortlisted authors and be one of the first people to find out the winners of the 2011 awards!

If you would like to attend you can now apply for places. Registration deadline is 16th December 2011. We will be in touch in January to confirm whether or not you have been successful.
