Picture books are full of quirky characters and dramatic situations, perfect for providing children with opportunities to put on a performance. If you're looking for some quick, low-tech ideas for using picture books as the basis for role-playing and reading out loud, this resource from theatre practitioner Amy Hall Gibson is the perfect starting point. The resource uses Ed Vere's fantastic picture books as examples, but you can use these ideas with pretty much any book to get your class enjoying the thrill of performance!

Joy Cameron, Primary 1/2 teacher at Lochnell Primary School in Argyll, took part in our Authors Live Champions Programme in 2016. Joy took Ed Vere's Authors Live event as inspiration for a fantastic transition project involving all pre-five, P1 and P2 pupils.

Tracy Corderoy and Steven Lenton's story, Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam, is a rollicking good fun picture book about two light-fingered dogs. The book has been included in the 2016 Read Write Count primary 2 bag, and we're delighted to present this special activity pack from classroom teacher Joy Cameron to help you explore the book in the classroom.

In March, Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour took award-winning illustrator and author Emily Gravett to Dumfries & Galloway and South Ayrshire for a special week of school events! She visited 650 P1-3 pupils at 13 schools and had everyone drawing!

Emily Gravett's award-winning and innovative books have been delighting children and parents ever since the publication of the groundbreaking Wolves in 2005. In this resource, you'll find lots of creative, cross-curricular activity ideas to explore Dogs, Monkey and Me and Tidy.

This award-winning book is the first by David Litchfield, and tells the beautiful story of a bear cub who finds a discarded piano in the forest. This resource focuses mainly on music activities you can do with Early and First level pupils.

This resource will help you explore Going for Gold, a fantastic book in the hugely popular Claude series by Alex T Smith.

Debi Gliori and Alison Brown's picture book Little Owl's Egg has been shortlisted for the Bookbug Picture Book Prize 2018. You can hear Debi read the story in full in this video, and there's also a fun little activity for your pupils to do at the end.
