Adult Learner Publications 2011
In 2011 Scottish Book Trust and Learning and Teaching Scotland (now Education Scotland) supported adult learners across Scotland in writing and publishing their own work. Seven groups from a wide range of backgrounds and places worked with our Project Co-ordinator, Tim Turnbull, to create professional publications that showcased and celebrated their creative writing. The publications were launched on International Literacy Day 2011 and have been distributed to libraries, adult learning partnerships and prisonsin every local authority in Scotland.
The publications are accompanied by a set of tutor support notes. These give some more information and suggestions for activities that could be used with each publication

A collection of creative writing–poems, stories and jokes– and illustrationsfrom West Dunbartonshire. The theme of the project is health and people's experience with medicine. It is deliberately light-hearted and aims to break the ice for learners when talking about health issues.

A collection of poetry produced by the residents of Eskdale House, which reflects on the problems of life in an institutions, and on dealing with the consequences of addiction.

A pocket sized booklet which contains hints and tips for literacy learners by learners from Moray. The publication aims to inspire other learners to think of their own 'hot tips' and to share them with their peers.
West Lothian's publication explores what learners consider reading and writing is by looking at words experienced off the page - in tattoos, on logos and as graffiti.
Writing from HMP Glenochil, exploring the dialects and different voices of the men from a variety of backgrounds who are detained in the prison.
These stories, poems and pictures give a snapshot of the lives, thoughts and interests of students at Kibble School. The writers aimed to challenge their readers' perceptions about young people "in Secure".
The Weird and Wonderful World of Therp
A surreal publication with words, photographs and illustrations by young people in Perth. This a really off-the-wall and entertaining view of the town, led by the vivid imaginations of the learners.
