Bunker 10 Bash
Bunker 10 Bash - Notre Dame High School, Glasgow
Notre Dame High School in Glasgow have their own Book Club. After voting for ‘Bunker 10’ in the Royal Mail Book Awards, they invited author JA Henderson to come and speak about his novel at their annual tea party.
'Our tea party was called the Bunker 10 Bash. The pupils were in charge of themed decoration ideas, managing catering and making a ‘thank you’ card and token for our guest of honour. They also raised funds for the event by holding a book sale of their old books. During our preparations, we’d talk about the book and discuss what questions we’d like to ask the author (the sneaky ‘educational’ bit!).
Organising the event was not as difficult as I’d imagined - I can absolutely recommend downloading the ‘quick guide’ for running events and using it as a checklist.
For the party, pupils dressed up as characters from the book, made their own cakes for the tea party and the brilliant science technicians decked the library out in weird medical instruments. For the Q&A, we had written down all our questions and pupils drew them out of a hat so they were all given an opportunity to take part.
J.A. Henderson was extremely entertaining and the pupils loved it!'
