Steve Cole Tour April 2009

In April we hit the high seas and headed for Orkney and Shetland with the hugley entertaining author, Steve Cole. Steve is the creator of the Astrosaurs and Cows In Action series of books of 5-12 year-olds as well as writing the Thieves series for older readers.

We spent two days on Orkney where Steve entertained children from Papdale Primary, Dounby Primary, St Margaret's Hope Primary and Kirkwall Grammar School before hopping on the overnight ferry to Lerwick (Shetland).

After arriving on Shetland Steve showcased his energetic and hilarious event to children at Bells Brae Primary, Sound Primary, Aith Junior High School and Mossbank Primary as well as holding a jam-packed public event at Lerwick library.

Both islands were stunning and we even managed to cram in some sight-seeing: visting Skara Brae and Ring of Brodgar on Orkney, the Shetland Archives and Museum, Sullum Voe and Bonhoga Gallery. We fell in love with the local radio stations Superstation (Orkney) and SIBC (Shetland), Steve was on BBC Radio Shetland as well as being featured in the local newspapers on both islands.

It was a hectic week but one that was throughly enjoyed by Steve, the teachers we met, the children Steve entertained, Jasmine, Marion and Chris.
