Eve Thomson
There's a dark hair between the nipped ends of the tweezers and I'm about to pull. I have the whole little drama - a slice of a grey eye, the curve of an eyebrow, this instrument of torture - in the pocket mirror propped up on a pile of books stacked on the table in front of the window. I'm just about ready to take the pain. And suddenly this blot of colour explodes into the edge of the grey square that's the backdrop to all this. My eyes make a quick change of focus. I'm so not expecting it, and drop the tweezers into my coffee.
