My Story

I first read Traveller as a 14-year-old, mainly because I'd enjoyed Watership Down by the same author and love the idea of his stories through animal's eyes. I think I read the entire novel in one sitting, unable to comprehend some of the tales I was reading about a devatstating conflict I had barely even heard of. For my birthday that year, all I wanted was history books, biographies, more novels - anything I could find to read about the US Civil War. I now have a collection of over 50 books on the subject and regularly bore my friends and boyfriends with whatever new snippet of information I've come across. I was considering making the book that changed my life one of the truly great histories I've read on the subject, such as "Battle Cry of Freedom" by James McPherson, or Shelby Foote's magnificent and engrossing three-volume history, but seeing as "Traveller" is the book that started me on this unusual obsession, I have to go with that one! Now, all I need is to raise the cash for a trip to tour the battlefields and I'd be a very happy girl...
