Dino Egg by Charlie James
Dino Egg
by Charlie James
Category 2: Younger readers (8-11 years)
About the book
OK. Here’s a question:
An egg hatches into a dinosaur on your kitchen table. Do you:
a) Scream for help and run for the hills as fast as you can?
b) Hide it from your mum under a pile of socks and try to keep it as a pet?
When a seemingly innocent boiled egg starts to shake, change colour, say ‘cheep’ and then hatch out a dinosaur, it’s Ned’s bad luck that his brother Bill goes for option ‘b’. Ned is the only person who can shake some sense into his totally irresponsible brother and keep his eagle-eyed mum in the dark. Well, so Ned thinks, anyway...

About the author
After a spectacularly mediocre (but tremendously enjoyable) time as a student at Edinburgh University, Charlie James graduated and found a job in publishing. This was in spite of having to leave her interview early in order to go on a skiing trip. She then pursued a career as a children's book editor in London where she worked for Reed International, Salamander Press and Canongate. She now lives in Edinburgh with her husband, two children and a disobedient dog and spends her time supervising the washing machine and trying to invent the world’s first self-cleaning house and weed-free garden.
Fish is Charlie James' very funny, pacy debut novel, published by Bloomsbury in February 2006. It was awarded the Fantastic Book Award from the Lancashire School Library Service. Dino Egg published by Bloomsbury in July 2008, is the hilarious sequel to Fish.
