Activity ideas to help your pupils explore themes of space exploration and home

This resource has been designed to help teachers and librarians use the three shortlisted books to inspire cross-curricular learning activities. You'll also find some great song and rhyme suggestions for each book, and a book list related to each title.

These resource sheets are designed for early years staff to support the Bookbug Explorer Bag. We hope that the resource sheets for each of the books will provide inspiration for cross-curricular learning activities. 

Scottish writer John Fardell has proved a firm favourite with young readers ever since The 7 Professors of the Far North was published in 2004! His picture books, Manfred the Baddie and The Day Louis Got Eaten, were voted by children as Scotland's favourite picture books in 2009 and 2012. This resource will help you explore these two books, plus two of John's chapter books, in the classroom.

Lauren Child's Ruby Redfort series follows the adventures of a teenage spy as she cracks codes, solves mysteries and gets the better of bad guys. Use this resource from teacher Linda Murray to inspire a huge range of cross-curricular activities and projects based on Look Into My Eyes, the first book in the series!
