Biography:
Born in Dundee, graduated MA Hons History Edinburgh University 1970. After many years as a musician I have been working as a freelance writer and broadcaster since the 1980s. Director of Scots Language Resource Centre 1993-98, ex-President Pictish Arts Society. Currently combine writing with storytelling, lecturing and music. I lecture on Scottish history, folklore and literature for University of Edinburgh’s Office of Lifelong Learning and work extensively in schools as both a writer and a storyteller, currently presenting SCOTSFEST throughout Scotland. Have had poetry– mainly in Scots - published and broadcast since 1970s.

Much of my work focuses on the culture of my native Scotland whether writing, storytelling or lecturing. Deep interest in Scottish history and prehistory in relationship to the rest of the world.

SCOTSFEST is a celebration of Scottish culture for schools, using a cross-curricular approach that is based on the Curriculum for Excellence. The providers of SCOTSFEST have considerable experience in delivering a range of successful cultural projects in settings all around Scotland. Their primary focus is on the fields of Scots culture, history and social life, but with relevance through story-telling and making to other areas of the curriculum.
