Biography:
Sandra Klaassen is born in The Netherlands(1959). From an early age Sandra wanted to become an illustrator of children's books, although she also dreamed of becoming a ballerina. At the Royal Academy of Art and Design in 's Hertogenbosch she studied graphic art and visual comminication. A few years after completing her studies she sent her work to various publishers of children's books and received various commissions. In 1997 Sandra's illustrations for the fairy tale book 'Mirrow, mirrow on the wall' were exhibited during the Bologna Book Fair in Italy. Sandra Klaassen has now illustrated a large number of children's books (ca 120). Her work has been exhibited on several occasions both in the Netherlands and abroad. In 2000-2001 Sandra's work appeared at an exhibition in 'de Kunsthal' in Rotterdam. Following this exhibition Sandra made visits to numerous schools, libraries and bookshops to give workshops and to explain something about her work. Since 2003 Sandra lives on the Isle of North-Uist, with her husband and two children, from where she drew her inspiration for the picture book'Uan the little lamb'. A story written and illustrated by Sandra, through the eyes of her two young children.
