Biography:
After gaining an honours degree in Zoology at Glasgow University Sam worked in a wildlife reserve, played in a rock band, and worked in sales and marketing before turning his hand to writing for children. Currently finishing off a fourth book in the Denthan Series, and the second book in the Island Adveture Books Series, Sam visits schools, nurseries and libraries performing imagination workshops. Book one in the Island Adventure Series, Windscape, is used as a cross-curricular study book for S1 and S2s while his fantasy book The Magic Scales has received the USA Flaminingnet - Top Choice Award. His books have also struck a chord with the charity Asthma UK. The main character in the Denthan series suffers from the affliction and Sam is always happy to raise awareness about the disease where he can.

Sam's book are tol feature at the Edinburgh Book Festival in August and September, signing books at the famous children's book shop: 'The Box of Frogs'. Sam already has school visits planned for the new term, but will be looking for more...

1.The Imagination Workshop (P3-S2)
Interactive! Encourages reading and writing. The class creates their own monster, learns about characters, settings and plots... (30 max, flip chart, crayons and A4 paper needed).
2. The Young Children's Workshop - Using the Tiffy and Toffy picture books, kids from 3-7 learn about wildlife, count and get to hear the stories first hand. (30 Max, Crayons and A4 needed).
3. A Peek into the life of a Children's Author
Any Age - Book Clubs, Assembly, Any Class. (Flip chart and Mic sometimes required).
Books like WINDSCAPE fit nicely into the Curriculum for Excellece. Secondary schools have used the book to link English, Geography and Art departments by using the text as a study book, a starting point to delve deeper into renewable energy topics, and a talking point on illustrations.
