yesBiography:
Glasgow-based author/illustrator of children's books and cartoonist. I used to work with respectful grown-ups as a health and safety advisor in Glasgow hospitals. Then the lab fumes dissolved bits of my brain. If you know someone who needs diplomas, you're welcome to mine.
About writer's work:
Being a very deep person, I aspire to drawing thought-provoking cartoons that put us in touch with our humanity. In my mind, my writing conveys uplifting spiritual messages. Why, then, do all my stories ultimately deal with talking animals, mermaids, and rotten baddies?
About writer's events and projects:
Here's success: when at the end, a sweet child said, "I think your illustrations were fantastic. When I get home I'm going to write a story about a bear." Shame the other kids said my bears looked like dogs... Pre-nursery to P7:
I can offer sessions focusing on stories (my Hamish bear stories, or thinking up new stories), on drawing cartoons or story characters, or I can give you a mix of writing and drawing. My aim is to inspire children to develop whatever they love doing, through my experience of writing and illustrating books and cartoon strips. I aim to give children the confidence to experiment and I share my "secret tips" to give them the tools to do just that. For the most up to date suggestions for session formats, see this page on my website.
The business side of illustration (for students):
An informal lecture for illustration students - so talented, but do they have any business sense? Make sure they don't end up packing supermarket shelves...
Enjoying stories with your child:
A talk to parents of young children (or trainee teachers) about the why and how of reading with their children.
