Born in Edinburgh, I have lived and worked in India, Australia, North Carolina, US, England as well as Edinburgh. I am married with two grown-up children and 5 grandchildren. Now retired I love writing and telling stories to children.About writer's work:
The Cat Who Decided is based on the story of Mac, a cat who came with the house we bought when I came back to Edinburgh to live with my family some years ago. The previous owners wouldn't sell their house to anybody unless Mac approved - hence the title of my novel. Because Mac was middle aged when we met, I had to do research and was lucky enough to meet 'Bronwen' in the story and her parents who could tell me most of the details of Mac's early life. Therefore most of the story is true interwoven with some family stories. It stared as quite a short story, and then grew. Many people remember Mac - like most people who live with cats, we thought he was very special. He lived happily into old age, and died very peacefully. I was terribly sad, of course, but he had had such a good life, and he'd made our life good too.

I am writing a series of picture books for 4 - 6 year olds based on Mac. The first one, MY CAT MAC, illustrated by Sandra Klaassen, is to be published in spring 2010.
