Kokumo was raised in the Fife village of Cowdenbeath, and hers was the only black family in the area. In the mid 1990's she was diagnosed as dyslexic and soon after she fulfilled her ambition to become a performance poet. She describes herself as an African/Asian/Scottish writer and performance poet, and has performed in the UK, USA, India and Africa.
About writer's work:
Kokumo’s work is essentially about humanity, and covers themes of passion, compassion, racism, religious tolerance and intolerance.
About writer's events and projects:
Kokumo is available for poetry readings, as well as workshops in: performance poetry, creative writing, writing with dyslexia, working with reluctant readers, assertiveness, raising race awareness through writing, black history, writing with art and music. Kokumo can also offer workshops on identity with black and Asian children, including music, video, writing and storytelling as well as anti-racism training.
She is currently developing team building workshops using poetry and song. Language:
