ArgyllBiography:
Kenneth Steven is a poet, children's author and writer of both full-length and short fiction. He's also well known as a translator from the Scandinavian languages, particularly Norwegian. He's first and foremost a poet; seven of his collections have been published to date and a volume of selected poems appeared in December of 2007 from Peterloo. He's published a number of picture books and a first novel, The Santa Maria, for children, and three novels concerning the land comprise A Highland Trilogy.
About writer's work:
Almost all of my writing, whether poetry or prose, takes its inspiration from the land. It's this umbilical between people and the land - especially remote places - which has fascinated me from the beginning. Elements of history and local tradition, the Gaelic language, Celtic Christianity - all these and more are woven through my writing, often in order to ask questions of Scottish identity and culture today.
About writer's events and projects:
First and foremost, poetry readings - often undertaken in conjunction with musicians. Talks and workshops on the whole writing process, from beginners' sessions to masterclasses. Storytelling, readings and imagination workshops for all primary school classes; talks on writing and readings for small groups of upper senior school students. Intensive weeks in schools as writer in residence.
