Home address:
5/2 Roseneath Street, Edinburgh, EH9 1JH, Scotland
Biography:
I trained as an illustrator at Edinburgh College of Art and continued my studies in London. I then worked as a freelance illustrator and part-time lecturer at art colleges in Scotland.
I grew up in an artistic family and have loved 'colour' and drawing humorous characters for as long as I can remember. Professionally this has resulted in my illustrating numerous picture books for children and organising 'fun' art-related workshops.
About writer's work:
Over recent years I have concentrated on writing and illustrating children's books of which I have had over 30 published.
I worked as a volunteer in the Neurology Ward of The Sick Children's Hospital in Edinburgh for a number of years. This allowed me to gain knowledge and experience of working with children with various disabilities. In 2007, I also trained as a Learning Assistant to work with children with additional support needs and have some experience of employment in this role within schools in Edinburgh.
As I have mild M.S. I have experienced some of the disabilities I've witnessed in the children I've worked with and consequently feel a sense of empathy with them regarding their condition.
About writer's events and projects:
Book readings and workshops with children aged 5 to 8 years involving the children acting out and drawing characters from books. Followed by talk on how I illustrated some of the books and a question-and-answer session.
