I'm a playwright and fiction writer from the Borders. I went to Hawick High School, studied German and French at Oxford, and lived in Germany and Switzerland for many years as a teacher, translator and radio journalist. My work for stage includes GORGEOUS AVATAR (Traverse Theatre), THE WIFE OF USHER’S WELL (Quondam Theatre) and ALLOTMENT (Nutshell Theatre). Radio plays include MACMILLAN’S MARVELLOUS MOTION MACHINE, LIFE: AN AUDIO TOUR, A PLACE IN THE RAIN (BBC Radio 4), OVERDUE SOUTH, LEFT AT THE LIGHTS (BBC Radio Scotland) and INNER CRITIC (BBC7). I teach Advanced Creative Writing for the Open University.About writer's work:
I write plays for stage and radio, and short fiction. I’m interested in imagination and transformation, and my work is often playful. Other interests include science and technology, and digital and literary experimentation, and I’ve worked as Virtual Writing Fellow for Dumfries & Galloway Arts. Awards: SAC New Writers' Bursary, SAC/National Library of Scotland Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship. About writer's events and projects:
I'm available to teach creative writing workshops on topics including playwriting, radio drama, getting started with writing, life writing, and writing for the ear. I've also run sessions on podcasting, blogging and kinetic poetry. I have a PGCE and have taught on the Traverse Theatre's Class Act project in Scotland and Russia, the MLitt in Creative Writing at Glasgow University Crichton Campus, and St Andrew’s University Summer School. I prefer working with small groups of committed writers. Language:
