Jonathan CapeBiography:
I was born in Dundee, Scotland. My father is Scottish and my mother South African. When I was very young we moved to South Africa and I grew up and went to school in Pretoria. In 1990, I immigrated to the UK. For a while I worked in a bowling alley, then in a fast food outlet and also as a summer camp leader. I completed an M.A. in English Literature and Philosophy at the University of St. Andrews. After I graduated, I moved to Glasgow, taught ESOL classes in the mornings, wrote in the afternoons and studied at Glasgow University’s Creative Writing M.A. graduating with distinctionAbout writer's work:
I am using my Scottish Arts Council Grant to take time away from odd jobs and focus on the very odd work of writing. My next book focuses on the lives of asylum seekers in Glasgow, among other things. I believe that good literature should evoke a visceral reaction before (but not at the expense of) and intellectual one. I try to make people feel something powerful while allowing them to make up their own minds about the characters' choices.About writer's events and projects:
I’m happy to do readings, residencies or lead discussions. I prefer working with adults or older teens either on the subject of my own writing, or creative writing in general. I have recently worked with asylum seekers helping them write about their experiences. Links to other websites:
