Biography:
Born in Galloway, Franzeska has over 20 books in publication – mainly for children. She writes for all ages. She often uses shadow puppetry to help people express themselves. In 2009 - 2011 she was Royal Literary Fund Writing Fellow in the University of the West of Scotland, Ayr campus, where she worked one-to-one with students on their academic writing. She lives in the village of Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire, where she is Writer-in-Residence for the local Drama Group.
About writer's work:
I write for all ages, and have books published from age 4 to young teenage. In 2010, I wrote my second book for Barrington Stoke - 'Fire Mask'. It was quite a unique project, because I wrote it with the help of 200 Midlothian schoolchildren, and it was definitely one of the most exciting publishing experience I've ever had. Details of the 'Fire Mask' project can be found on my website: www.franzeskaewart.com.

My second book for Frances Lincoln, 'There's a Hamster in my Pocket!' is out this year and is in the Richard and Judy Summer Book Club. It's a sequel to 'Sita, Snake-Queen of Speed', and again features Yosser Farooq and her best friend Kylie Teasdale. This time, we meet Kylie's big brother Sniper and his gang of rapper friends, and we also hear all about Nani's mysterious - and deeply sinister - puzzle box.

As the title suggests, Kylie's Russian Dwarf hamsters, Toffee 'n Caramel, are integral to the plot as well, and we hear what happens when you keep hamsters in the pocket of your best jeans for too long ...!

Information and images from my recent projects and author visits, plus book reviews, interviews, and news from the literary scene, can be found by selecting My Blog.

About writer's events and projects:
I am available to talk to all ages, from 4 to 104. I generally talk about the publication process, and how I go about writing my books. Then, if appropriate, I give my audience a short writing workshop. I can also run CPD for teachers and librarians on using shadow puppetry in language development.
