Winner of the Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship 2010. Scottish Arts Council Writer’s Bursary, 2002.
Born and educated in Glasgow with a genetic inheritance that encompasses Mull, Shetland, Brechin, Girvan, Sligo, Strathaven and various points in between. After a first career in public libraries then several years living in France and Cumbria, I took the creative writing Mlitt at Glasgow and Strathclyde Universities, from 1998-2000. Experienced creative writing teacher and facilitator ever since. I teach creative writing through The Open University and I’m a member of the Scottish Writers’ Centre steering group. My short fiction and poetry have appeared in Gutter, Chapman, Mslexia, Daily Telegraph, The Herald, Cencrastus, Northwords. Anthologised by Polygon (Birlinn) after being shortlisted in the Macallan/Scotland on Sunday Short Story Competition, 2002. Anthologised by Luath in ‘Written Remedies’. In 2007-8 I collaborated with Eileen Munro on her poignant autobiography As I Lay Me Down to Sleep, published by Mainstream in August 2008. Now working on a novel set in France.

Creative writing teaching / facilitating – particularly interested in fiction, memoir and travel writing workshops but I’m flexible. Also available to give readings of my own work and as a competition judge. Language:
