Biography:
I’ve been a teacher and a librarian, worked as a freelance researcher for local history projects plus a writer, a parent and, more recently, a grannie. I grew up in Edinburgh but spent many years in London, mostly trying to get back to Scotland. I live in a small town on the Firth of Forth and try to spend as much time as possible staring at the sea thinking deep thoughts.
About writer's events and projects:
I am currently running a group for young writers/readers in my local library, helping to develop their writing/reviewing skills. It has been stimulating and a great deal of fun both for them and for me. During a school visit I generally discuss aspects of my own books, writing in general and the process of publication. I use various resource materials, but I am happy to adjust to whatever suits individual circumstances. I also have experience of children who may have difficulty accessing books without support, ie children with learning difficulties or other disabilities and I am keen to encourage their interest in the world of books and stories. I prefer to work with small groups if possible so that my visit is a two-way process rather than a formal talk.
