The Midnight Palace by Carlos Ruiz ZafόnThe Midnight Palace by Carlos Ruiz Zafόn is a very intriguing book. It has left me feeling that there is something the author has not told me, but at the same time I think that he hasn’t left much room for a sequel.

It is interesting that some of it is told from Ben or Sheere’s perspective, the main characters. But a portion of it is portrayed from what one of their old friends is explaining about their dark past. Even so, I felt it slightly alternated between you being a spectator and being the actual person.

It is a challenging book and it took me a while to really understand the entire situation and it takes a while to get into the flow. In the beginning it’s all a bit stop and start.

The characters are all very lifelike; they were explained so thoroughly that I felt I could know them. Their personalities are very vivid and all very conflicting. Zafόn has really set the scene well. Many readers are very visual and like to picture the scene in their heads, myself included, and I could almost see a ghost train and hear the screaming orphans.

I would recommend this book to people who are avid readers and like getting stuck into something. It took me a while to get through but it was worth it to know how it ended.
