Bookstart in Scotland has created a comprehensive programme of CPD training for Early Years Staff and other professionals involved in the gifting of Bookstart Treasure Chest packs.
The cost for attending this informative and highly enjoyable training day would be £75.00 plus VAT. This includes provision of a high quality resource kit for each delegate, which includes a full colour handbook, training support DVD, posters, stickers, a wonderful CD of music and rhymes for children, plus various other beneficial pieces of equipment.
The comprehensive one-day training course for Early Years’ staff will enable you to understand how to gift My Bookstart Treasure Chest effectively and why effective gifting is so important, how to use the Bookstart Treasure Chest as a tool to engage with parents and to increase parental involvement in children’s learning and how My Bookstart Treasure Chest fits into the wider literacy development work of Early Years Settings.
The next training session will be held on 9th March 2010 at Dundee University.
Please download the booking form and email it to catriona.wallace@scottishbooktrust.com if you would like to book a place for this day.
Alternatively we can arrange a local group training day, which can be held in your local authority for a wide range of staff members to attend. The cost for this service would be £600 for two trainers to provide a full day training course, plus a fee of £55 per delegate for their resources and equipment. Venue hire costs and VAT are not included in this price and it would be hoped that the local authority could provide a suitable local venue. (This price works out at £75.00 per delegate if 30 delegates attend, with the added convenience of the training taking place in your own local authority area.)

Books Sharing Skills CPD
Tuesday 16th February, 2010
Venue: Sandeman House, 55 High Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1SR
A practical CPD session for practitioners working with children aged birth to five and their families.
Would you like to develop your storytelling skills and broaden your knowledge base about appropriate books for children aged birth to five, whilst also picking up practical hints, tips and techniques on how to pass these skills on to the families that you work with?
If so, this one day CPD session, provided by Scottish Book Trust's Early Years Team, is for you. The course will transport delegates into the wonderful world of children's picture books, looking at the vast array of beautiful new books which are now available, titles to look out for and recommend to families, as well as revisiting tried and tested old favourites, and examining what makes them stand up to the test of time.
The session will look at the national book sharing programme, Bookstart in Scotland, and the free book sharing materials which are provided through this programme and how practitioners can best use these materials with the families that they support.
A professional storyteller will pass on a wealth of knowledge during the workshop and will concentrate on skills for reading aloud, in groups and one-to-one, and how to pass on reading skills to parents who may lack confidence in their own reading ability.
The fee for this one day course is £75.00 + VAT per delegate. It is expected that the course will run from 10am to 3pm. All refreshments (including lunch) will be provided.
To book this course, please download the booking form and e-mail to catriona.wallace@scottishbooktrust.com by 2nd February, 2010.
Please contact Catriona Wallace, Bookstart Assistant on catriona.wallace@scottishbooktrust.com or 0131 524 0180 if you require additional information.
