The poet Wendy Cope has chosen the stories in this wonderful anthology. It includes all types, from the humorous (about an oblong pancake or a dog who could talk) to the moving (a story about an elephant and how he was unhappy with his lot in life); from those collected for their entertainment value, to those for their literary merit; from traditional folk tales from Africa and Japan, and fairy tales, to popular contemporary favourites; to the retelling of old favourites such as "Emperor's New Clothes" and "Beauty and the Beast".
