Paradise End

Her life was perfect - from the outside. "As I stood in the gallery at Paradise End, gazing down into the huge, sunlit hall, I felt the beauty of the house wrap itself around me. I knew that cruelty and loneliness hid behind its polished doors, but I forced the bad things from my mind. I just wanted to pretend that I belonged there."

Elizabeth Laird says: "I've never been a good sleeper. All my life I've filled some of those long night hours by imagining what my dream house would be like. It's changed over the years (it's much smaller now!) but I still like to picture it in my mind and walk from room to room. It's easy to think that if you lived the most beautiful place in the world, and had everything that money can buy, you would be happy. But as Carly finds out in Paradise End, life isn't quite so simple."
