Càit a bheil Seònaid Chaimbeul? / Where’s Janet Campbell?

Nobody can understand what’s wrong with Janet Campbell: a quiet, intelligent, hard-working 4th Year girl, she’s suddenly started coming to school late and in disarray, looking tired and depressed, missing classes, and refusing to talk it over with anyone, even her boyfriend. It’s only when a concerned local businessman alerts the school that Janet has been in his corner shop trying to buy a bottle of vodka, that her register teacher takes it upon herself to go round to the house to see if she can help. After all, she is an old school-friend of Janet’s mother, though her pupils find it hard to imagine she was ever anything but a sharp-tongued, strait-laced, middle-aged battle-axe…
