Patrick NessChris, Heather and Kate from the children’s team headed over to the Edinburgh International Book Festival yesterday to see the wonderful Patrick Ness.  Patrick is the author of the multi-award winning Chaos Walking trilogy series. Kate stops by the blog today to talk about the event.

Monsters of MenYesterday, August 22nd, Patrick Ness entertained a sold-out venue as he turned up in Edinburgh to talk about his award-winning Chaos Walking trilogy. For one delightful hour the audience was treated to some insight into the series, as well as a fantastic reading from one of the most eagerly anticipated books of the year: Monsters of Men. It was a Sunday afternoon well spent and in some excellent company.

If you’re not familiar with Patrick then you should pick up the first title in the trilogy, The Knife of Never Letting Go. The title was released in 2008 and went on to win the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize as well as the Booktrust Teenage Prize. The second title in the seriesThe Ask and the Answer was named the winner of the 2009 Costa Children’s Book Award and no doubt Monsters of Men will be in line for some excellent awards.

During the event the audience had some fantastic questions for Patrick but they were all very good at not giving away any spoilers for those in the audience who have yet to make it through the full 3 titles. Patrick also had some fantastic news to share. He has now finished his next book A Monster Calls and it will hit the shops in May next year!

For those of you who have yet to read Monsters of Men then why don’t you watch the trailer for the third book in the series now!
