Maggi Gibson: Launch of Seriously Sassy

Blog Category: Teens & Young People

Maggi GibsonThis weekend saw the launch of Maggi Gibson's Crazy Days which is the third book in the Seriously Sassy series. To celebrate the new book a Seriously Sassy Summer Festival, with lots of fun activities took place in Glasgow over the weekend. This week Maggi takes over the blog to tell you all about her new book and the Seriously Sassy Summer festival.

Phew! What a busy day I had on Saturday. My new book Crazy Days was just out, and I'd decided to celebrate with a Seriously Sassy Summer Festival.

HandpaintingWhich meant lots of activities to organise, cos we were going to be making friendship bracelets and beaded bookmarks. And designing festival wellies and CD covers for my character, Sassy. (Sassy writes her own songs and wants to be a star, as well as wanting to save the planet, natch.)

So I had lots of stuff to lug along to the library – like glitter and glue and beads and threads and pens and of course, goodies and books. Sassy and her best buds particularly like marshmallows and strawberry laces, so we had to have lots of those!

Seriously sassy

The event kicked off with me reading a bit from Crazy Days. In this, the third book in the Seriously Sassy series, Sassy has problems with one of her best buds and her romance with Twig isn't going quite the way she'd hoped. As if that wasn't bad enough, when she and her friends decide to fundraise to help people caught up in an earthquake it doesn't turn out as easy as she'd hoped. After the reading I was asked lots of excellent questions about being a writer, then I was busy book signing.

Sassy Readers and MaggiAnd while I was doing that, Sassy fans were making fab beaded bookmarks and being really creative with the hand paints and the friendship bracelets. (I guess they were eating lots of marshmallows and jelly babies too!)

Plus there was a special treat, cos my daughter Hazel (she's the one I based Sassy's crazy little sis, Pip on) had baked some cakes.

And before we finished up, we all got together for a special photo.

Sassy Summer FestivalThen I packed up all the festival activity stuff, and the fab library staff (big thank you to them!) hoovered up the last of the glitter – which was everywhere. Finally, tired but happy, I smooched off home to put my feet up – and nibble at a special treat Sassy fans Suzanne and Lyndsey had given me.

I Love Crazy DaysI certainly had a crazy day – the best kind of crazy day. I'm off to Islay tomorrow cos I'll be doing some Seriously Sassy Song Lyrics Workshops as part of the Young People's Arts Festival there on July 12th and 13th.

But before then I'll be starting to write a brand new series. Exciting! I can't wait…
