NaNoWriMo: SBT's Social Network Independence Programme (SNIP)

Category: Writing

During NaNoWriMo, in order to get the utmost out of time devoted to writing, we would advocate a four step programme to remove the distraction of Social Networking Sites entirely from your writing environment.

Remember, every word you type is important!

Step 1 – Copy and paste the following words into your Facebook status and bravely press ‘post’.

‘I am taking part in National Novel Writing Month, and as such will be taking a break from all you dumbos for the month of November. If you wish to get in touch with me, don’t.’

Step 2 – Go to the change password page of your facebook account – when you get to the ‘enter new password’ step, close your eyes and mash the keyboard with your fist. Then copy and paste the resulting ‘secret password’ into the box that says ‘re-enter password’. Click change. Hey presto! Enforced self-exile is yours!

Step 3 - Repeat steps 1 and 2 for twitter, bebo, myspace or any other social network of which you are a member.

Step 4 – Purchase some post-it notes, copy the following, in capitals, onto four post-it notes and affix to your computer monitor, your mobile phone, your home phone and your front door:

‘YOU ARE A WRITER. AS SUCH YOU HAVE NO INTEREST IN WHAT ANYONE ELSE HAS TO SAY UNLESS IT INVOLVES YOUR IMPENDING DEATH. IGNORE THE CLAMOURING MASSES. ’
