Education roundup: March

A look at news, practice and resources from around Scotland. This month, find out more about booktrailers, read about one school's involvement in the Blue Peter book awards, and explore some great online tools and lesson ideas.

Lesson idea of the month

A fantastic post from @MisiesD on the Pedagoo blog. In the post, she shares her 'One Minute Writing' lesson idea, which involves minimum prep and maximum engagement from reluctant writers.

Online resources of the month

Screenr is an online screen recording tool which is free and incredibly easy to use! It allows you to record what you do on screen, and also narrate as you go. The final result is a published video, and you can also download an mp4 file. This is a brilliant tool for sharing tips and how-to-guides with colleagues, and can help you to create content for pupils through your blog, website or GLOW group.

PicLit is a fantastic tool for creating writing stimuli - try it now!

What is a booktrailer, what does it look like, how can youproduce one, and what are the possible applications in our new curriculum? Our involvement in the ReadIT course led to a presentation at TeachMeet Fife recently - the presentation is available here!
