The first Family Legend to be broadcast on the radio will be Catherine Simpson's story 'Mercy Boo Coo', read by Catherine herself. Catherine tells us a a bit about her special family member and how she came to enter her story.

In the last weekend of March, The Longship, Kirkwall, displayed an eclectic capsule collection that was so… last century! From 24th-26th March, Family Legends set up shop in the retailer, with nothing but an empty rail.

As I encouraged people across Ayrshire from Saltcoats to Girvan and Ayr to Kilmarnock I found myself having to explain what Family Legends means. To start with, the words 'Family' and 'Legend' carry different meanings in the English dictionary to the feelings they stir up in people's lives.

Family Legends Volunteer on Orkney, Kirstin Fairnie has been gathering stories and talking to people about their family legends. Her recent events in Orkney College and appearances on radio and in the Orcadian have been encouraging people to send their stories, as a recent influx of post from Kirkwall is showing! Kirstin writes about her quest to get the Orcadian family legends onto the page.
