Bookbug Book of the Month: Daddy Honk Honk!
Daddy Honk Honk! by Rosalinde Bonnet
When Aput the fox finds an abandoned goose egg, he has no idea what’s in store for him. He doesn’t know anything about babies and he certainly doesn’t know what to do when the gosling hatches and mistakes him for its daddy. So he decides to find the gosling a home. But with each page turn, Aput learns more about caring for a baby and, with a little help from his friends, he discovers what a baby needs most is love.
'Daddy Honk Honk is a heart-warming tale about Aput, an arctic fox who takes on a somewhat unexpected role when he discovers an egg. The egg hatches and the lively gosling, on opening her eyes, decides that the fox must be daddy. Learning to care for a new baby can be hard, and this book is a great conversation starter about all the things that babies need to thrive: warmth, food, sleep, play, stories and love.
Rosalinde Bonnet’s beautiful drawings will introduce children to the Arctic in a magical way and her storytelling features rich and interesting vocabulary. When was the last time you read “tundra” and “ruckus” in a picture book? I loved the funny dialogue between the fox and his fellow creatures, and think that dads and mums everywhere will fall in love with Aput’s determination to be “the greatest daddy” to his adopted baby.'
