Picture Books to Help with Healthy Smiles
May 16 - June 16 is National Smile Month - the UK’s largest and longest-running campaign to promote good oral health.
We know that getting your little ones to brush their teeth regularly can be a battle. And for many, a trip to the dentist is a stressful day for everyone. But don't worry, there are plenty of picture books out there which can help you prepare your child for the dentist, or make teeth brushing a fun, and regular part of their daily routine.
Here are some of the best:
The Boy Who Hated Toothbrushes by Zehra Hicks
Smile, Crocodile, Smile by An Vrombaut
Peppa Pig: Dentist Trip by Ladybird
How To Brush Your Teeth with Snappy Croc by Jane Clarke and Georgie Birkett
'Little Croc's been crunching, snip, snap, SNIP! She doesn't want to clean her teeth. Watch out! She can nip.' This is a great board book to introduce very young children to tooth-brushing. With bright, bold illustrations, and fun galore with toothpaste, this playful little book is perfect for introducing tooth-brushing into the daily routine.
There are so many books to help you encourage your children to have good dental hygiene - it's just about finding the books that work for you.
As your little one's teeth start to fall out, look out for the brilliant Lollipop and Grandpa and The Wobbly Tooth by Penelope Hareper and Cate James and My Wobbly Tooth Must Not Ever Never Fall Out by Lauren Child.
