This week Joyce Wallace tells us all about Bookbug’s Library Challenge at Neilston Library:

At Neilston Library in East Renfrewshire we have had great success with Bookbug’s Library Challenge and this year we have had more children than ever collecting all seven certificates!

Our sessions are great fun and we can have as many as 80 children and parents coming along to the library on Tuesday mornings, for our weekly 10.00 am Bookbug Session.

Every child is encouraged to join the library and is given a collector's card.  A sticker is given for listening to the story at the session and children can collect more every time they visit the library and take a book home. The resulting increase in our picture book issues has shown just how effective this is in encouraging book sharing in the home.

When children complete a card they hand it in at the library counter and their certificate is written ready to present the following week. To mark each achievement we have a presentation at the end of our sessions when certificates are given out and everyone gets a round of applause, with a very special cheer for those who reach the 7th Certificate.
