Do you want to bring Gaelic Bookbug Sessions to your local authority?

In November last year we asked you to let us know if Gaelic Bookbug Sessions took place in your local authority. We were delighted to find out that currently there are Gaelic Bookbug Sessions running in:

Argyll and Bute

Highland (via Bord na Gaidhlig)

North Ayrshire

If you know of a Gaelic Bookbug Session activity happening in your area and you are not on the list, please contact us with the following information: where Gaelic Bookbug Sessions take place; how many sessions; and how many people attend.

Would you be interested in starting Gaelic Bookbug Sessions with support from Bord na Gaidhlig from 2013/14? If so please let us know how often and how many sessions you would be interested in running.

Please send your information or note of interest in Gaelic Bookbug Sessions to catriona.wallace@scottishbooktrust.com by Tuesday 22nd May.

Play Talk Read Update

The Play Talk Read bus is back on the road, touring around Scotland, and Bookbug Specialists will again be running Bookbug Sessions on board the bus.

The scheduling of the tour is being coordinated by Hannah Mitchell, and she is very keen to involve local Bookbug Coordinators and local Bookbug Session Leaders in the campaign when the bus visits your area. Hannah is your first point of contact for all queries relating to Play Talk Read, and she has provided the attached document outlining the plans for the 2012/13 PTR campaign, and how you can get involved.

Bookbug Co-ordinator Calendar

An updated calendar went into your Partnership Agreements but we thought it might be useful to have it separately. It has been added to the guidance and support page of our website. It's also attached at the bottom of this page.

Bookbug Week

We have commissioned a very special song for Bookbug Week called The Torch Is On Its Way. You can find recordings of this song on our website, as well as lyrics and actions to help families join in. Please include this song in your special Bookbug Sessions and events throughout Bookbug Week. The song is also included on the rhyme mats so you can hand these out to families at your sessions and get them to join in.

You will also find a number book, song and rhyme suggestions that you may wish to include in your Olympic themed Bookbug Session. Colouring in pages and a template for a medal are also on-line. Please click here for the web link for Bookbug Week: http://www.scottishbooktrust.com/babies-early-years/professionals/bookbugweek

Statistics for Creative Scotland – arts activity in areas affected by crime

Creative Scotland have asked us to collect some additional statistics this year regarding arts activity in areas affected by crime. We need to contribute to this collection of data with information about Bookbug Sessions which run in areas of deprivation.

We apologise for the short notice but we have just been asked for this information and will need these figures by the end of next week.

What we need to know is if any of your Bookbug Sessions are run in areas of multiple deprivation. We are happy for you as local coordinator to make a judgement as to which libraries are based within such areas.

The statistics we need for the period 1 April 2011 – 31 March 2012 are:

• Total number of Bookbug Sessions held in areas of deprivation within your Local Authority

• Total number of children and adults attending these sessions

Hopefully you will have this information to hand as it was required for our annual Bookbug Session statistics and it will just be a case of pulling out the figures from specific libraries.

Please email catriona.wallace@scottishbooktrust.com with this information before this Friday 27th April 2012. It would be helpful if you could call this email ‘Statistics for Creative Scotland’ to avoid confusion with our annual Bookbug Session stats.

Bookbug Pack Annual Stock Reminder

Thank you to those of you who have already submitted their full stocktake figures. Just a reminder that we will need your figures by Monday 30 April 2012, but you can carry out your stocktake any time from now until the end of April.

We ask that you:

• Carry out a count of Bookbug packs held at your central store in April 2012

• Carry out a count of Bookbug packs held at all gifting locations in your area during April 2012

• Complete the stocktake form (instructions provided on the form)

• Return your form to bookbug@scottishbooktrust.com by Monday 30 April 2012. If you have any questions about the stocktake, please contact catriona.wallace@scottishbooktrust.com as soon as possible. Thanks very much in advance for your work on the stocktake, which is essential for our reporting purposes.
