Daisy's mum and dad are always too busy to listen to a word that she says, so when, one day, she tells them that a big purple rhino has just walked into the house and taken a chomp of her pancake, guess what? That's right - nobody listens! But there's a surprise in store for Mum and Dad when they discover that a big purple rhino has gone missing from the zoo. Perhaps they should have taken more notice of what Daisy had to say.

Mum and daughter read Rhinos... togetherFamily Review

Amelie (who is nearly four) and I really enjoyed the book. The illustrations are fantastic and Amelie was captivated by the relationship between Daisy and the big purple rhino – so much so that she became quite tearful at the prospect of them being parted.

Amelie was very interested in Daisy’s trip to the zoo, and this led to a discussion about where the best place for the rhino is – with his family in the wild, or in the zoo.

Another aspect of the book which Amelie and I talked about was the issue of mums and dads not listening to their children – Amelie couldn’t relate to this at all, either because her father and I are wonderful parents or perhaps because this is more a problem for older children.

As I’ve already said, Amelie became upset when she realised that Daisy and the rhino were going to be separated. Her wee sad face, however, lit up with a smile of delight when Daisy’s new friend arrived at the end of the story. All in all, this tale proved to be a bit of an emotional rollercoaster with plenty of funny and charming moments as well.
