On 17th June, 2010, at 11.00am, we had our third event in the Authors Live programme in partnership with BBC Scotland Learning: an audience with one of the UK's foremost storyteller’s, Michael Morpurgo.
Michael talked in his dryly humorous style about his life, work, the animals in his books including War Horse as well his latest works; An Elephant in the Garden and Not Bad for a Bad Lad. This event suits pupils in P5-S2.

Feedback
Teacher Feedback:
"Very interesting for pupils and staff. Mr Morpurgo comes over as enthusiastic and slightly eccentric, and the children listened very carefully. Very worrthwhile event, thank you." Hazlehead Primary School
"Very good. We felt included and entertained. Michael Morpurgo is a great entertainer!" Mid Yell Junior High School
"Fantastic. Kept all pupils of all abilities interested throughout. Talking to pupils afterwards was informative as several of them said as a result of watching this, they would like to become authors." Birkhill School
"Definitely engaged all the children in the class. One child bought the new Morpurgo book in the way home that night!" St Peter's R.C. Primary School
"I thought it was fantastic as did my class. Michael was a wonderful speaker. The children were glued to the screen and hung on his every word. Since the video several of my class have bought Michael's books or found them in the library. One boy has the new book but is not allowed to start reading it until his holidays- he let me have a read of it though!" Loirston Primary School
"The children throughly enjoyed listening to the author. He was entertaining and held their interest. They were excited by his stories." Girvan Primary School
"Absolutely fantastic! The children were mesmerised and found Michael Morpurgo very funny. It gave them plenty of information about him to go away and think about and share. It helps to bring alive the idea of 'author' and they enjoyed the storytelling section. It was excellent for me as a teacher as it gave me so many ideas of where to take our 'Authors and Letters' unit. A lovely experience to share with the class who watched for longer than I had expected, although they couldn't cope with sitting still and listening for much more than half an hour (they are only 6, 7 & 8!). I will be recommending the programmes to my colleagues. Thank you to all involved!" East Hoathly
"Pupils and staff really enjoyed this event - the author himself of course was very entertaining and engaged us all immediately!" Stoer Primary School
"Very engaging for the children. We had allowed pupils to choose and read a Murpurgo book with a partner before the event and they were really keen to hear what he had to say." Arkleston Primary School
"Very interesting - my class and I enjoyed the interactiveness and of course the opportunity to hear from a real, live author!!" Craigie Primary School
"Fantastic, was just like Michael Morpurgo was visiting the class. Larger than life infact! No mean feat to have P4/5 engrossed for full 50 minutes." Aith Junior High School
"Absolutely brilliant I was watching it to use with creative writing students who want to write for children it was inspirational" Winchester
"It was very good! Even though we were watching it a week later the children really enjoyed themseves and were participating enthusiastically." Belhaven Hill School
"This is a fantastic opportunity for us to see Live authors (especially for free) and it has generated a lot of fun as well as curricular events in the school. One English teacher showed it to his less able S5 and they loved it - especiall MP's eccentric outbursts - they thought he was cool!" Craigmount High School
"Very good event to watch with the children. Good tips from author about how to write stories that then led onto good class discussions." Westruther Primary School
"Funny and relaxed; pitched perfectly for our S2 kids!" Ayr Academy
"Excellent performer in Michael Morpurgo - kids were transfixed" Davidson's Mains Primary

This was very interesting
This was very interesting watching the Authors Live as he is my favourite author! I too also want to be an author and in fact I have already wrote a book and got it published at only 11 years old! It is called 'Tinker The Cat' But is only the first of many!
Michael Morpurgo
Thanks so much for organizing Michael Morpurgo's appearance. He was very engaging and gave such good advice. We watched in the library with S2 pupils and we all really enjoyed hearing what he had to say. We will definitely sign up for the next Author Live Event.
