Impromptu bookmarks…inspecting other people’s bookshelves…the scents of pages…libraries…reading to a child; loving books is about loving stories, but it is so much more than that too. Here, author and broadcaster Daniel Gray gives us an energetic, impassioned and amusing gallivant through the delights of reading. In conversation with the writer Ron Ferguson, Gray brings to life his recent book Scribbles in the Margins: 50 Eternal Delights of Books (Bloomsbury), and discusses why reading in bed is the height of escapism.

Inspired by J B Priestley’s 1949 book Delight, Scribbles in the Margins is a love-letter to libraries books and bookshops, rejoicing in the many universal and sometimes odd little ways that reading and the rituals around reading make us happy. Warm, heartfelt and witty, it contains fifty short essays of prose poetry. Join us for a joy-filled celebration of our favourite pastime.
